Well, you have to understand that not only are the Contact Roles really easy to setup and also use but the logic behind using them is also quite straightforward. Two of the reasons why you need to use the Contact Roles is for you to be able to define the role which the contact actually plays in a particular opportunity or account such as being a decision maker, influencer and a lot more.
Moreover, to add a contact to many accounts or opportunities at a single time. Moreover, you can set a contact as the primary contact. This is very useful when you have several contacts which are related to a certain opportunity but just one contact should receive any communication regarding the deal.
In addition to this, you also have such option of customizing the role picklist through adding the custom roles for the selection. But, talking about the customization, you should also be aware of the limitations of the Contact Roles.
You can have that option to put new custom roles to your picklist in Contact Role and it is not fortunate thought that you are not able to customize the Contact Roles layout for you to remove those standard fields. That often is enough requirement for a lot of businesses which you may have come across that are using this feature. What you see is simply what you get.
Also, the further limitation is that such primary option on the case Contact Role isn’t available since this defaults the primary contact as such contact listed in the contact name in that case detail section. However, you should not worry. The admins are not interested about these limitations and they are considering more the challenges. You just need solutions to the Contact Role.
By making a custom object, then you won’t only be able to add custom fields but you may also customize the related list layout so that it fits the business requirements. All that you will have to do is to remember to name the custom object as something different in order to avoid confusion.
